Peter Smilanich is the co-author of the popular text, Classroom Management: A Thinking and Caring Approach.

He has been a junior high curriculum coordinator, a district administrator in British Columbia, a consultant, and a department head of counseling and student activities in a high school setting. He has also taught high school social sciences, elementary school, junior high, special education, emotionally disturbed adolescents, ESL to adults and university courses on teaching processes at the University of Alberta and a summer institute at McGill.

Currently, he does occasional substitute teaching to keep in touch with the real classroom. He is also serving on the Alberta Teachers' Association junior and senior high schools task force on Safe and Caring Schools. He has given inservices across Canada, the United States, and Australia.
